we are god

advaita means we are god. in order to manifest our god nature it helps to know of the existence of this theory (and now you do) & to accept it fullheartedly. advaita is the purest form of hinduism & it was practised by jesus. there are no rituals or fine print connected with it. it is generous to the max & makes its believers the same. it is the end of religious wrangling in ones own mind & ultimately in the world for ultimately it will be accepted by the whole world.

Hi,
There is a wonderful book titled "Sermon on the Mount According to Vedanta" written by a monk named by Swami Prabhavananda, who belongs to a great school of thought. The book makes a fine link between one of the greatest teachings in Christianity with a great school of thought from Hinduism. The link to the book is this. I am sure you will like it. Let me know.

Al,
I was a little busy. I got your message. quick message. The Brahman in Advaita roughly translates to the Holy Spirit in Christianity. Not the God. Think about it.

so where did you discover that Jesus practiced hinduism?

Blogger al hakanson said...

yes amar. that makes more sense. in some forms of hinduism brahman if thought of as a person dies after trillions of ys. but the god substance i believe is eternal. christianity also thinks of god as substance out of whom 3 persons emerge. but i like your correction in which the holy spirit is not a person but the god substance or essence

Al,
Was busy again. I am writing some personal

Here is my most recent thought. There is Atma, which is not different from Brahman. There is ignorance above the Atma, which impedes the understanding that Atma is not different from Brahman. Above ignorance is Ishwara, who has power over ignorance and can remove it from any Atma at any time. The main form of ignorance is the feeling that the world is real. Above Ishwara is Brahman. Praying to Ishwara is one way in which we can remove our ignorance.

The (near) equivalents in Christianities are Ishwara=God
Atma=we
Jesus Christ can either be thought of as a manifestation of God (an avatar), or a manifestation of the realization in us that we are as perfect as God Be ye perfect,” he says, “even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

its getting harder & harder to distinguish between church & nightclub. we have a christian network here & in africa & china that teaches that the church age is over. that we are in the great tribulation. that the rapture comes at the end of the world, next, prolly in 2011. i think the church age is over. i know the church didnt help me at all in my distress. i had to do it all myself

to amar. isnt it odd that religion gives us all these crutches such as ashtara to help us poor weak mortals!

my final repose is in the thought that god is essence & that which isnt/doesnt seem to be this essence is becoming this essence

ishvara is a dvaitist concept. i like to keep things simple. to go to the source of all things. this is sat. the essence from which all things spring. even brahman is considered to have sprung from sat & will die after eons

even brahman is considered to have sprung from sat ...

I don't think so. Sat is an experience of Brahman. So are Consciousness and Bliss. The times when we experience these, we are closest to Brahman. At other times, we have the veil of ignorance before us.

There are lots of people in India who describe such experiences. In fact if you observe yourself closely, you will find that you had experienced such things. However, the main point happens to be "What to you do with dream magic?"

ive given up on reading advaita books for its like beating something good to death. your theory on eschatology/samadhi is solid imo. the e'l parts of the bible & all religion i believe is to be taken poetically. it shows what happens to the seeker after complete redemption
